Hello everyone!

My name is Dawn Hayward and I live in St. John’s, Newfoundland.  I am currently enrolled in my 4th and 5th courses in the MED. Program in the Technology strand.  It is great to recognize familiar names as I have read the postings for the first assignment.  This degree is finally starting to feel like a community as I take more and more courses and get to know the students and professors!

I was delighted to read the first four chapters of Neuman’s book; “Social Research Methods”.  Panic has begun to set in with regards to my final project since I have been talking to other students about their experiences.  I was beginning to feel unprepared and overwhelmed about the task ahead.  The easy layout of the text and reader friendly format, though simplistic at times, was just what I needed to set my mind at ease (for now)!

Although I realize that my final project will not be as smooth as the steps of the research process offered in chapter one (pg. 11), it was great to have social research broken down into examples that seem “do-able”.  Also, defining social research has opened new possibilities in topics.   My project does not have to be tedious and detailed to be considered “RESEARCH”, I can choose a topic that is interesting yet relevant and attainable.
