Reflection
#2
EDER
603.01
I have really enjoyed being a part of EDER 603.01.
The entire class has so many interesting experiences to share with
regards to qualitative research. I
especially enjoyed the audio conference in May.
Online learning is effective and informative but you can’t beat the
human interaction of an audio conference. It
is great to put voices to the discussion postings.
There are many aspects of this course that I have found
useful in my daily teaching. Ethical
issues are extremely important in the classroom. Every activity and interaction can be used as “research”
to improve and change ones practice. We
must consider ethics when we repeat a story or use an example in a paper.
This is something I had not thought about as much as I should have.
With our staff research project, our supervising professor wanted to make
the experience as painless as possible. She
took care of the ethical procedures and we were left out of that process.
I now wish that we had been a part of that practice because I feel the
experience would have been invaluable.
I have already taken the Instructional Design and Development
courses for this degree so I found the chapter on content analysis very
interesting. The topic was dealt
with in past courses but it was informative to learn about it from a different
perspective and in greater detail.
I am grateful I took EDER 601 first.
That course touched on a little quantitative and qualitative research and
I was left wishing I could delve into the qualitative deeper as I felt more
attuned to that perspective. Now I
feel that I have satisfied that curiosity and can relate much more to the
course.
